Old account not closed down from Bankruptcy

Well, as some of you know, I'm coming up on my bankruptcy discharge date, and I thought I would have a check through some old things. The first was my Cahoot current account, that I had opened just before declaring to that First Direct wouldn't have acccess to my wages. So I logged into my account online, and found it was still active, with £198 in credit. So far, I have had about £30 added in intereste since I stopped using it.

Now I did everything correctly, declared this account to the OR and handed over my debit card and cheque book for the account during my interview. Now my question is, why is the account still active? Why can I still use all the facilities, such as transferring money etc? And why has the OR left £198 in there?

I'm sure Addicted2Chocolate will be along in a second to clear this up, but has this happened to anyone else?

Just as a footnote, I was never overdrawn with this account and I only used it for 2 months before going bankrupt.

  • not sure, maybe the OR left the money in there becuase they thought you needed it for living expenses. I would write a letter to Cahhot asking if they have been informed of the bankruptcy by the OR, and whether they are going to allow you to continue using the account.

Already done A2C, just waiting for them to get back to me. I just find it strange that the OR didn't take the money. Could it be because it was too small to really bother with. I'm paying £280 a month on an IPA, so maybe he thought he would be getting enough with that?
