Has anyone come across a website that does these reasonably priced? I have 3 children and want to buy 2 suits each and on most websites they are about £25 each at least - don't really fancy spending £150!!! My son is 13 and lots of places only go up to age 12. Help anyone.

Hi
Try this Australian site. I get all my sunscreen from here - much cheaper and far better than most UK sunscreens. They also have really effective sun-proof clothing - 'Australian standard' so you know it works, as the ozone hole is over there and they take skin cancer and protection really seriously. You might be able to get away with just one outfit per child and just rinse after use so they're ready to wear again?

I'm sorry I can't help on the UV swimsuits but I do hope everyone who reads this thread also reads Sunlight Robbery If you don't want to read the whole of the leaflet search for "children" and read how important it is that your children get sufficient sunshine while growing.
I am sure all parents are aware that their children are almost always paler skinned and fairer haired but this changes as the children mature. It is a genetic modification specifically to ensure that their skins make more Vitamin d3 as this is needed to control growth. Not having sufficient sunshine while a child leads to diabetes and MS so while it's very important NOT to allow your children to BURN or even get deeply tanned by sunshine it is MOST IMPORTANT they do get regular direct exposure to sunlight on a substantial amount of skin, for at least 20 minutes most days, hands and face only will not be sufficient.
Parents/guardians of brown/black skinned children should be aware that their skins evolved for equatorial areas and seriously restrict the amount of Vitamin D the child's skin can make so they need six to ten times more exposure that pale/while skinned children.
Adults who work outdoors and children who play outdoors are regularly exposed to the sun and are less likely to develop melanoma than those who work or play more indoors
the importance of sunlight for healthy teeth in Britain comes from studies made by the British Association for the Study of Community Dentistry in the early 1990s . These studies found a consistent north/south variation in the prevalence of caries with more caries always in children from Scotland, the Northwest, Wales and Mersey regions – areas with less average sunlight. The proportion of 12-year-old children with untreated dentinal caries was three times greater in Scotland than in the South West Thames region.
Most children in the UK have less than optimum levels of vitamin D in both summer and winter. In winter, UK
children have an average vitamin D level of 52nmol/l (measured as serum 25(OH)D) which means that one third to a half of the children have insufficient vitamin D for long term health. In summer the average increases to 80nmol/l, a barely adequate level which does not allow the accumulation of any reserve to provide for the winter. Dark-skinned children in the UK have levels of vitamin D of 36-42nmol/l (not differentiated by season) – levels which lead to hyperparathyroidism and are not optimum for health .

My son is allergic to the sun and we get all his sun suits specially made for him. They are made to measure and come in loads of funky designs and colours and are really outstanding value for money.
They are long sleeved and come from the neck right down to the ankles and have a zip all the way down the front.
