Car Service

Options
Just contacted Edwin May the VW dealer in portadown to get my car (Sharan 1.9 TDi)booked in for a service.

My car is due its timing belt change and a service and this was the approx quote:

Timing Belt Change: £295.00 approx:eek:
Service: £222.00 approx:eek:
TOTAL: £517.00 approx:eek::eek:

This is a joke does anyone know of anywhere that I could get the above done, book stamped at a lower price??

In the craigavon area please!!

    £300-£400 is about right for a timing belt change, as for service it will depend on what needs done for its current miles, modern diesels are a bit more complicated these days. Last timing belt and service i had done was £400 approx, that was with no VW dealer stamp though.

    If you are not bothered by driving a few miles you could try Walsh Motors in Belfast. They are specialised in VAG cars and did a very good job on my Skoda. They have all the equipment needed to Service VAG cars.

    Full Service incl. proper VW stamp was £95. According to the prices on their website they charge bwtween £145 and £185 for changing he Timing Belt on a 1.9td.

    I can recommend them, and some other people I know also use them regularly without any problems.

    I have never left a car in with any mechanic/dealer for a set job to be done without being hit for extras. Sometimes they would phone you & say weve found your front discs need replaced or you would turn up to collect your car & the extra work would have been carried out & the bill had jumped by £200. be careful!

    Funnily I have never ever had that happen to me in 15 years of driving. :T But said that I choose my garages carefully(mainly based on recommendations) and usually tell them to call me if anything out of the ordinary over £20 needs to be replaced.

    We use Phillips in Lisburn because they are cheaper than the Belfast based dealer on Boucher Rd but I'm not sure of cost as OH does all that.

    Also the consumer council have guidance on choosing a garage for servicing

    I think you don't have to have the car serviced at the dealership for your car to remain under the 3 year warranty.

    I see that Agnew Autoexchange on Ladas Drive, Belfast are offering services from £99. It looks like dealerships are struggling for business so it may be worth haggling with whoever you choose.
