A case is never closed0

thats a bit stupid then the amount of people who use csa and finally kids grow up cases finish new ones begin and cases are never closed. No wonder they are ina mess if they are actually never closed!!!that must be millions of cases on a system constantly so in another 10 years they will have 30 yr old people walking round whose parents could be in their 70's and there case is still open!!! how daft!0

My daughter is 24 this year and only recently I learn;t a LO this year was served and it dates back to a Penalty Assesment from 1997. So yes, it remains open.0

Surely though, if a case is fully paid up with no arrears, then there must be a time limit, even if it's the statute of limitations period of 6 years.Donedoingdebt Lightbulb moment January 2000. Debt at highest approx £102,000. Debt now (October 2009 - absolutely fork all!!!)

so does that actually mean the case is closed finished bye bye no more case?0

I suspect that once the pwc stops getting child benefit and all the maintenace payments are paid off including any arrears then the case will be closed.marmite2505 wrote: »so does that actually mean the case is closed finished bye bye no more case?
However a PWC can close a case at any time they like, but they can have the case re-opened again if they so do wish. I believe that the case just goes into storage.Hit the snitch button!member #1 of the official warning clique.

If the PWC chooses to close a case, its closed.
If she/he chooses to reapply, a new case would be started.
If old case was on old rules, he/she'd have to wait 13 weeks before reapplying for a new rules case, otherwise he/she'd still go on old rules.:beer:0 -
if the pwc was on income support and arrears built up then the case will not be closed until arrears are cleared. if there are no arrears and the pwc is not on income support then this can be closed. Also the statute of limitations period does not apply to child maintenance. I also think that only the pwc can ask for the case to be changed from csa1 to csa 2.0

What you have to consider is there are two halves to every case.
The assessment side can be open, suspended or closed, but the accounts side can only ever be closed when the arrears have been paid off. Due to problems with the computer and CSCS the MA side is normally suspended pending the arrears being paid/written off.
However once a person is on the computer the new case (QC's included) will trigger a link. If a second application is made for the same AU (parents and children in the same roles) the it will normally be progressed under the original number.Nothing to see here :beer:0
