in Cutting tax
I am married. Last year I earned a salary which ws subject ot my personal tax band, tax free allowance etc. Unfortunately my partner, although working, did not earn anything (self-employed, property business, economic downturna nd every deal fell through....)
My question is: If we have a joint tax free allowance, but I was the only earner, AND he did submit a tax return.... can I back-date and get some of his tax free allowance?
I am on maternity leave now, so there is NO income whatsoever!
cheers

You don't have a joint tax allowance ... each of you have a separate tax allowance which is not tranferrable.
you can transfer savings / investment however between you so that you can pay less tax on the income generated if one person isn't using their personal tax allowance.0 -
That's called independent taxation and did away with draconian treatment of women.I didn't do it, nobody saw me do it, you can't prove a thing!

I seem to remember a time when it was transferable and, if the little woman was keeping the man, they were better off than the other way round???0
