    Hi Wantabetterlife,
It is really tough trying to have any extra money on maternity leave. I remember starting a new job a few years ago - just a week before finding out I was pregnant for the second time in as many years . We had been doing so well saving at the time, but this meant that I had to take all of my maternity leave unpaid as I had not been with the company long enough. I had taken 6 months with my first child and felt I should do the same with my second. So ended up for 6 long months with no income, 2 kids under 2, and buying a house all at the same time!! As we had also just moved country for this job, hubby was job hunting at the time.

We did get through it and came out the other side smiling, but have to say it was certainly a more stressful maternity leave than the first one had been. All the stressful things you can do at the same time - new job, new country, new house, new baby. Apart from divorce we did them all - though we probably came close to that some days through the stress of it all :rotfl:

Hoping your maternity leave will be more relaxed :D
  • Hi ISBR
Just wondered if your mortgage company had any kind of offset arrangement - i.e where you can put your savings into an accessible account, but they are taken into account when calculating mortgage interest. Alternatively with some accounts (I think) you can overpay (using your savings) but still get access to them at a later date in case of emergency.
Just a thought as the savings rate is currently not good, mind you the mortgage interest rate is very good - so no doubt somebody else will be able to come back and confirm whether or not either of those are a good idea.

ATT It's a serious business, how can you imply otherwise?
Now go and sort out some date based averaging functions to predict your OP in November :D
