Been charged for something I haven't bought - HELP!

Hi,
I've just checked my online banking and I've been charged for my Sainsburys shopping as expected and then there's a separate outgoing also to Mr S for £14.40 that I haven't spent. I've only been to the shop once in the last month and these are both dated the same day.

What do I do?

Phone the bank or Mr S?

I want it back on principle and hopefully some compensation!

Any advice?

Id phone your bank and explain what has happened and get themn to look into it, as there shouldn't be any money taken without your permission. xx

I work for Asda, when we have a customer who comes into store with this problem the customer service manager can arrange for a transaction search on the customers debit/credit card. The second transaction is always found, it tends to be a purchase the customer has forgotten about. When you make a purchase the time it takes to hit your bank account can vary so two purchases that hit your account on the same day can have been made at different times.
When they find your transaction they will not expect you to pay them compensation but do appreciate a thank you as it does take time to track the purchase you forgot about.

    Hope this helps

100% sure it's an outgoing, rather than a refund for something you refused on delivery?

This happened to us we had a payment from our current account for 200.00 to sainsburies home delivery service which we never used. Our debit acrs had been cloned so contact your bank ASAP.

Get your bank to question it as a disputed payment, the company then have to provide evidence that it was definitely you or it will be charged back. (these things may take some time though)

Generally any disputes have to be generated from the card issuer side of things (your bank / card issuer).

If you call your bank/card co they can tell you the date and the location and time of the transaction - not the date it appears on your statement.
I had one once for £1 and I swore I'd never spend £1 on my credit card and called up to dispute it.
It turns out it was a day I was waiting for a lift home from Portsmotuh Ferry Terminal for 2 hours in the middle of winter and had bought a coffee from SubWay in the shopping mall nearby, when all I had on me was a credit card. Ooops! *blush*

As previous poster says could it be for petrol or the cafe? I know I have queried this in the past only to be reminded that I also used the cafe that day.

Or could you have bought something from another counter within the store e.g the pharmacy, cigarette kiosk, clothing section etc?
