HMRC fraud *** BEWARE***

I received a very convincing email the other day from HMRC, they told me I was entitled to a refund of £178, woo hoo I thought. So I clicked on their link which seemed to take me into their website and started to fill the refund form out.
Then the alarm bells started ringing when they asked for my mothers maiden name and my credit/debit card details.
Also how did they have my email address and why wouldnt they ask me to give my bank details.
So I thought I would give them a call. I was right, this is a fraud group, the HMRC advised they would never send me an email especially not asking me for my credit/debit card number. The email address that came to me was right apart from it didnt say gov at the end.
Please be aware and do not give out your credit or debit card details to anyone over the internet no matter how convincing it may seem.

this type of fraud has been going on for quite a while. HMRC have a section about known frauds you should take a look at here : http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/security/fraud-attempts.htm0
