Background Programmes Help Req'd

Hi
I have recently purchased an Acer Aspire 5024 laptop.
I recently installed quite a memory intensive Star Wars game and everything was working fine up until this morning.
It appears that there are lots and lots of background programs running which appear to be eating into the RAM meaning that when playing the game it is really jumpy.
Can anyone tell me which of the following programs are needed and which ones can be erased upon startup:
Monitor.exe
SVCHOST.EXE
MSMSGS.EXE
ICQLite.exe
ccApp.exe
DSLAGENT.EXE
GSICON.EXE
SOUNDMAN.EXE
PCMService.exe
WButton.exe
OSDCtrl.exe
HotkeyApp.exe
Powerkey.exe
Launchap.exe
ATIPAXX.EXE
SynTPEnh.exe
SynTPLpr.exe
ccEvtMgr.exe
SPBBCSVC.EXE
SNDSrvc.exe
ccSetmgr.exe
ALG.EXE
WMIPRVS.EXE
EXPLORER.EXE
wuauclt.exe
ATI2EVXX.EXE
SVCHOST.EXE
ATI2EVXX.EXE
LSASS.EXE
SERVICES.EXE
WINLOGON.EXE
iexlore.exe
CRSS.EXE
SMSS.EXE
NPFMonitor.exe
NAVAPSVC.XE
taskmgr.exe
WINWORD.EXE
anbmServ.exe
SPOOLSV.EXE
System
System Idle Process
I do appreciate that this list is a little long but I am sure there are many processes/programs I can delete without any danger.
Any help would be most gratefully received.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Derbylad.
I am guessing the list you have displayed was taken from the "processes" tab on Windows Task Manager.
Rather than delete processes, so that you don't get rid of something important, simply increase the priority of Star Wars application. From the "processes" tab, right click on the Star Wars exe and set the priority above normal.
To get rid of unwanted applications at start up, to maximise performance, type "msconfig" in the run program (its on the start menu) and go to the "start up" tab. Simply uncheck programs you don't want to run at start up. If you uncheck the wrong file, you can re check it later, they don't disappear.0 -
MSMSGS.EXE
ICQLite.exe
are for MSN + ICG so could be started manually when you need them (change the options in each program to stop them running on start-up)
SPBBCSvc.exe is a part of the Symantec Internet security suite and you also seem to be running Nortons Anti Virus as navapsvc.exe is a part of the Norton AntiVirus application ????
you should not have 2 anti virus running at the same time so I would unistall the one you are no longer using/require
The process named crss.exe is running on your computer, you may have been infected with a strain of the Irc.Bot Trojan.I would recommend that you download and run Ewido from www.ewido.net to get rid of that little nasty !!Ex forum ambassador
