I'm a self-employed sole trader and I make sure all my spending for the business goes on my debit card so it shows up on my bank statements, that I obviously keep for my tax return.
I also have a personal credit card that I don't use at all for the business - is there any requirement that I keep the statements for this card? (Actually I just get online statements, but still...)
I can't see how it would affect my tax return...is is OK to throw away as long as I am not claiming any expenses referenced on the statement?

I keep bank and cc statements for a minimum of 5 yrs, you never know if someone will come claiming something not paid for and you can then prove it was.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

if you have an accountant it will help him a lot when doing your accounts.0

You don't need to keep it for tax purposes,as there is no business expenditure, however it is best if you keep them just for your own records, even if just for a year or too.Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0
