and if you want a gmail.com as opposed to googlemail.co.uk account then get someone overseas to set it up for you.0

G Mail has a very good spam filter, and some really nice background themes that changes throughout the day like the tea house.
That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Another vote for GMail, instead of setting up different email accounts you can just use one but put a plus sign after your email address with some text and then the rest of the email address; for example:
Your-Email-Address+amazon@googlemail.com
or
Your-Email-Address+mags@googlemail.com
All the emails will go to your Your-Email-Address@googlemail.com account, I use this for a few things and if I get spammed I just filter it to the Bin.0 -

I like gmail... but I read about someone who opened an account which started receiving spam almost immediately... and that rings true with me - my first gmail account is spam central (ok, so I wasn't very careful with that address) but my 2nd account which I DO use carefully has started to attract it too.
I'm talking about so-called 'google earth update' spam and so on... ok... so it all gets put in the spam folder, but it's still annoying! My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
I have yahoo, hotmail and gmail. Gmail gets the most spam, yahoo very little and hotmail none.0

I hardly get any spam with my Gmail account my Yahoo get's loads (10 - 20 a day) and my Hotmail gets some (2 or 3 a day).
In Gmail I let the Spam filter handle all of it! I've had no spam in my Gmail inbox for over a year!
Also if you ever get a domain name Google can handle it of you use their "Google Apps" product.Laters

If you use Outlook you can still get all your old emails from previous ISP's and even send from them (via the smtp address of the newip), but usually I do it to ensure I don't lose anyone, and then advise them of the new address.
Totally agree on googlemail/gmail very smooth operation, and goes into Outlook fine.
