    Actually, in places like Oxfam, anything that doesn't make the grade to be sold in the shop, does get sorted into big plastic sacks to go to fabric sorting plant for recycling/ redistribution to other stores/ donated to 3rd world etc. They sell this on to rag dealers, so they still make a bit of money from it. Just make sure it's clean.... it's not nice being a shop volunteer & opening up a bag of manky donations :eek:

    When my Mum was an Oxfam volunteer all the rubbish just went into landfill and she used to get really annoyed that people sent rubbish in for them to get rid of as it cost the shop money as trade waste.

    Oxfam has it's own recycling plant for fabrics at Huddersfield.It's called Wastesavers, They are now starting a similar one for books.

    some recycling doorstep collections take fabric for recycling. I have the same prob with trousers...I wear them out in weeks as I walk loads and am ahem, chunky around the thigh area! It always feels like such a waste when the rest of the trousers are fine.
