Standard Life Fund Selection

Options
Hi!

I`m looking to choose a relatively high risk fund selection for my pension.

I`m 31. I contribute 10% and so does my employer.

I've read a little and made a selection. Worried that a little knowledge may be dangerous :)

I'd be hugely grateful for any comments on my selection; understandingly not advice - but perhaps drawing out the highs/lows of my selections and possible alternates to consider?
  • 45% UK Equity funds = Newton Income
  • 35% North American Equity funds = Standard Life Pension US Equity Tracker One
  • 20% Far East Equity funds = Standard Life Pension Pacific Basin
Thanks!

Needs to be more diverse imo and its too western based. You dont need to follow america and the uk, the two equity markets duplicate each other alot of the time

Trustnet list alot of funds you could select and also HL explain which companies these funds are in

If you have an internal fund range then typically around 5-6 funds would make up a good portfolio. If you have an external fund range available, you should be able to aim for all sectors to be covered with 8-13 funds.

With the 3 funds you have chosen with the weightings you have chosen, you have taken on more risk than the Std Life managed fund and managed to underperform it most of the time over the last 10 years. It is important to realise that a random selection of funds with random weightings can do more damage than good.
