an update and a question about the cashminder account.

Hi,

Havent posted here for a few weeks as we have had no internet connection etc due to moving into the new house this past weekend.

The move went swimmingly with me doing the bulk of the moving in my trusty Astra estate (saving on the cost of van rental), with a friend coming to lend a hand with his work van to move the very big stuff.

We are now in the new (huge) house and we are loving it, there is just so much space its scary compared to our old house that is.

Now onto some completely unrelated questions:-

1) We have received a letter from first direct saying that on the 12th April a direct debit was taken from the wifes account which put her account overdrawn, now she didnt have an overdraft facility on this account so they have placed a small charge on it.

but in the letter it stated that "as this charge was incurred post BR it cannot be included in the BR" and they are demanding payment immediately...i need to know if this is right before i contact the OR about it.

2) I am sure this has come up before but here goes....how do we pay cash into a co-op cashminder account, the closest co-op branch is over 30 miles away.

Can we pay in at the post office as some other banks allow you to?

Thanks for your continued help :-)
:grouphug: hehe it always makes me chuckle

Had a similar thing with the failed DD, forgot to cancel it!

The OR told me it was not included in my BR as it was a debt incurred after BR, even though the payment request came before I went BR the charge came after, so I had to pay it.

With regards to the coop, the answer is yes, you can pay in at the post office, if I remember right you should get given (or request) some paying in envelopes or something!

Happy for you that the move went well :)

I have to be honest i dont know the asnswer to question 1 but i can help on question 2. Just pop along to the post office with you card and pay it in there and its instantly put into your account.

Works great for me as the post office is 150 yards from my place but the nearest co op is 55 miles :D

Nope. If this is not a basic account that OR has allowed you to continue using, then it is no nothing to do with you and not your problem. :)

Yep. You can pay in cash/cheques via the post office.

    Awesome, thanks for the replies.

I thought we would have to pay first direct, just wanted to make sure.

I took it as being a basic account as it had no overdraft facility.

I included mine on the forms but the OR told me he wasn't interested in it so I had to pay.

No it wasnt a basic account, it was an ordinary First Direct Current account.

My lord all this post bankruptcy stuff is very confusing but oh so worth it :p

In that case, then it is their problem.

The account isn't legally yours to do anything with now. That includes paying charges.

I think the OR Waspeze had misunderstood the situation a bit. Unfortunately, not uncommon.

We have had many many people here where a bank has continued to add interest/charges on accounts after you BR order.

Unless incurred on an account the OR has allowed you to keep they have to be included, otherwise where would it stop?

I think the problem with mine was that it was a basic account with no debt associated with it or possible to be had, so the OR had no interest in it.

Because the charge (which I only got coz I forgot to cancel one DD, remembered all the rest ) occurred after my BR date it was basically my fault and my account.

If, as you say, the OR misunderstood the situation and I shouldn't have had to pay then it actually worked in my favour in the long run as I got to keep my current and savings accounts with the bank (lloyds) :D

    Fair enough. :)

I think it was Phil who had problems with Barclays over this. They ignored the OR and kept his current account open racking up charges and demands for 6 months. Must have built up thousands. But in the end was not his problem, despite Barclays protests. ;)
