I called and turned it down. Had a little pang of regret but hey ho. I feel happy about it TBH.

BTW, didn't nozzadamozza have a similar thread a while back?

so you're going for the lisburn road house? i loved living on the lisburn road. close to tesco, coop, pubs, train station at adelaide, i always felt safe walking at night as its always quite busy. and i loved dandering up it on a saturday looking in the boutiquey shops - not that i ever bought anything!!

would love to live there again.

I lived on the Ormeau Road for 10 years. My children went to school in the local school on Sunnyside Street. I loved it, tho' now its becoming a little studenty. There is no better place in the summer than Ormeau Park, with its old trees and plenty of space and families walking through - I was there last night gorgeous. There's a safe green corridor from the Ravenhill Road up the river along the embankment into Stranmillis and either Botanic gardens or on to Lagan Meadows. Good community spirit through Ballynafeigh Community Group which not really apparent on the Lisburn Road. Super Chinese / Japanese food @ Gaze or Macau. McGurrans #( the Errigle ) is the better pub, now that Botanic Inns own the Pavilion at attracts a slightl;y rougher crowd. Shoppings not as good as the Lisburn Road, but its not as expensive either & its an easy walk into town. Above the bridge is better than below. Good luck

Thanks again for the replies. I sat and thought hard about the Ormeau house and the one huuuge drawback I couldn't live with is the divided reception rooms. :o Sounds daft but it would drive me mad! Does anyone else prefer a through lounge?

I actually viewed another place on the Ormeau Road this evening, it's a slightly smaller house but £60pcm cheaper than the Lisburn Road one. It's got a large kitchen, unfortunately the yard is so tiny that the kitchen is quite dark!! The bathroom is also big, with a shower over the bath. There's a through lounge (hooray) with a dining table.

Upstairs is a really lovely double bedroom and a single room, and some storage space. It's a very nice house, the only con is the dark kitchen and the fact that the house isn't that big. But surely it should be big enough for two? Maybe I have too much stuff (hmm, BF was right all along). Would a dark kitchen put you off a house? It's not totally dark but you would need the light on most of the time even in the daytime.

nadnad, good point about the sun! :rotfl: I do try to be optimistic but let's look at the weather forecast for the next 2 days and remind ourselves that it is now May and as cold as March!

harpo1, interesting about the community group, where can I find out more about them? My only problem with the Ormeau Road is (a) no major supermarket and (b) I would feel less safe walking home at night than on the Lisburn Road. Did you? What made you decide to leave after 10 years?

    Thanks in advance.

I'm going back to see the second Ormeau house this evening, also booked a viewing for another one tomorrow and one on the Lisburn Road this evening. I am getting viewing fatigue! :rotfl:

It has a major supermarket - Dunnes is fine & used by the locals , never a queue & reasonably priced. Tommy McCreery is first class butcher & shore2 shore sell fresh fish on fridays outside Michels fruit shop - its like a mini local market. The people who live on the Ormeau stay close, we just moved up the road and only because it was impossible to get a 4 bed house with garden without bankruptcy. Safe yes safe, especially around St Judes & Sunnyside. Thou there are more rentals ( like the lisburn Rd) many people still live there all there lives. The rentals are the only bother really - people who aren't all that bothered by house proudness! I would happily move back & I still see me old neighbours when I nip down on Saturday. Ballynafeigh community group is based in a house opposite the park, been going @ 30 years & well used.
