Tesco wine extra points - loophole?

Thanks to earlier posting on this board, I have been playing around in the Tescos online wine store, seeing the best way to use the 1200 extra points on min 12 bottles (2xcases) of wine.

The voucher is worth £12, or £48 in rewards...

I have found cases of 12 bottles of 25cl wines eg Tesco Australian Cabernet Merlot for around £17 plus £5 postage - and the voucher was applied (though I stopped short of making the payment). So spend just over £22 and get £48 worth of points!

do this and you will probably find that tesco will not honour the code...there are many people out there who have tried the same.

also, exploiting the codes by trying to do such things was one of the the reasons Mr T stated to stamp down on code abuse.

As there is no minimum spend on the code, how is this 'abuse'?
  • Not sure why this is a 'loop hole'. It's just plain obvious. If your main aim is to get points and don't care what wine and quantity you are getting then you would obviously pick the cheapest 12 bottles!
There are even cheaper options than the OP, such as 12 x 25cl blue nun @ £15.85. Pay a little more and you can get 12 full size bottles of lambrusco rose light @ £17.32. 12 full size bottles of hock @ £21.43. 12 bottles of marques de leon @ £23.48.

Lets say you pick the hock. you get 6 litres more than the OP and it costs you £21.43 - £17.10 = £4.33 more. This is an extra 8 bottles for £4.33 = 54p per bottle.
I think i'd pay the £4.33 more to get 8 bottles for 54p per bottle.
    Cash ISA rate 6.5% fixed for 2 years. Mortgage rate 0.75% = 5.75% profit on £75K = £4500 per year:j
Mortgages make money. Definitely don't wanabee mortgage free!
