ID checks

Please redirecct me if this is in the wrong place.
We have applied for a mortgage and our photocard driving licence copies have gone walkabout in the internal mail system of the buiding soceity. We were told that they had done an internal ID check to save us having to send another copy ( or prevent them having to look any further for the copy!) I was told I had passed, but my DH had failed - he doesn't exist!!
Can anyone tell me what criteria they are looking for. We have joint bank account, he has 1 current credit card, 2 more recently closed, a recently closed A&L bank a/c, a passport, a driving licence etc. He has jointly owned property with me for 20+ years and has always been resident in the UK, why would he fail? (not a credit check - we passed that, just ID check for money laundering.)

What bank or building society have you applied for? Each financial institution have different ways and information required for the ID checks. They usually have list on their system. Could'nt you just phone them?
Bit odd your partner has failed. Does'nt he have a passport? Photocard of driving licence will do.Motto: 'If you don't ask, you don't get!!'
Remember to say thank you to people who help you out!

Cant understand why he would have failed? the credit check is an issue for some people but the ID check is just a case of supplying one ID (usually a passport or driving licence) and one proof of address (such as a utility bill or bank statement) Most lenders these days do the checks automatically anyway now.
Need to chase them up and get a better explanation!0 -
I think there are some crossed wires here.
The lender has initially requested standard money laundering documentations (ID and address proofs) for both applicants. They have then managed to lose some of it, and generously(?) at this point seemed to have suggested they would try to get EID (electronic id verification) for both applicants so they were not delayed trying to replace the lost id and sending it in again. One of the applicants passed this electronic id verification, the second failed.
This is perfectly normal and not sinister, typically I find around 1/3rd of people fail this type of electronic id process, it doesn't mean they do not exist, just that the company carrying out the report cannot find enough information to meet their threshold to issue a conclusive ID verification document. Things going in his/her favour would be being on the electoral roll at the current address for several years, having several credit agreements at the same address matching his name and date of birth etc. Conversely you are unlikely to pass this type of EID process if you are not on the voters roll, have no credit, and have moved house 5 times in the last 2 years.
In this scenario it just means the lender has to revert back to traditional paper based identity verification for the person they could not verify electronically. Time to dig out your shotgun certificate/paye tax coding notice or other alternative id.
ps. Other possible reasons for failing, if they couldnt match him up to his data. Worth getting his experian report to ensure that voters roll and all credit data is in his correct name and date of birth. Also make sure when applying for credit you use his full name every time with correct date of birth.0
