It's all Browns Fault

To balance up the Maggie thread I thought I'd start one blaming brown. He's far to insignificant in my opinion to be the sole cause but I think he did add to the many causes. Here is a really good article that basically makes all the points better than I can. (Basically that trying to have low inflation and not including House prices, mortgage interest and debt inflation in the measure got us into this mess)

I cant see why people persist in blaming things on Maggie or the previous Tory government. The torys haven't been in power for over 10 years. If things aren't right today that can only be blamed on Labour who have had more than a decade to sort things out.

Of course the blame for the current situation should lie at Browns feet. This mess happened on his watch and he should be held culpable.

My clear understanding is that anything good that's happened in the last twelve years is inspite of Brown and anything bad that's happened is 100% this fault.
Does that make is crystal clear?

That's not a million miles from the truth.

I think they took over an economy in good health and then went on to create the biggest boom and bust for over half a century, with the dodgy pfi off the books deals and targeting cpi as inflation and ignoring all the other areas.

    very fair minded of you

Also its a little known fact that Brown was responsible for the melt down in the US mortgage market.
As you know it all started under Clinton when he encouraged (ordered) freddie mac and fanny may to lend money to the blue collar workers so they could share the 'american home ownership dream'. The fact they couldn't repay the mortgage was ignored.
Anyway the important point that's not generally known is that Clinton used to phone Brown every day and seek his advice : and Brown suggested the above course of action.
I know this is true because I know a reporter on a well known newspaper who told me.

The funny thing is that you could snapshot the previous decade and say exactly the same thing. Lawson took an economy once again back in good health and created a huge boom and bust, which then got worse through targeting exchange rates and ignoring all the other areas like interest rates and inflation. Have Labour got things wrong? Absolutely. Did the Tories? Absolutely. Some of you talk like one party are always right and the other are always wrong - real life doesn't work like that.

Certainbly Brown is MUCH MUCH MORE to balem for the current economic mess and social crises (immigration, benefit fraudsters) than Mrs Thatcher ever was.

She started the ball rolling on a lot but Labour never stopped it. 10 years is a long time.

Wasn't it 17 years since she was in power? I blaming her is wearing a bit thin given that Labour have had 12 years to correct things (and a mighty fine job they've done too)

Didn't Mags get a great big annual rebate from the EC which that chap Blair handed a significant chunk back for no apparent reason ?
