Some stuff these days just isn't worth repairing, but if I have something I enjoy wearing and it is good quality then I will usually totally ruin it attempting to repair it.

(OH won't let me sew buttons back onto his shirts for him any more, he does them himself icon11.gificon12.gif)
My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead :D

  • I repair favourites and work clothes but I won't bother with really cheap stuff or stuff that's got too tatty to save.

I repair seams and holes and replace buttons but I can't darn. I don't think I'd bother darning socks anyway. They're cheap enough in Primark and they normally go walkies in the wash before I wear holes in them. I wear my jeans out on the inside thigh and I used to patch them but I've stopped as the double thickness makes me too hot. I still prolong the life a little though by oversewing the inside seam til the fabric gets too worn. I'd like to know how to darn to do jumpers and tights though. I have repaired holes in these with a needle and thread before, just trying to catch up the stitches in the fabric and pull the edges together which doesn't show too bad with neat, small stiches but It'd be good to be able to do a proper invisible mend.
