Go to asda and when you hit the check out, they always put the sweets there!!! Why? Whilst you buy the kids will moan and you will buy them!
Halifax? The advisor probably knew they had a cheaper or similar product. Attitude would be why should we allow another competitor to grab the money they could make?
This is normal.
The only abnormal thing is that the attitude of the Halifax estate agent is rubbish!!!! You did not buy into her due to her poor attitude, making you dislike her. To be honest, you made up your mind when you knew she was trying to sell you something.
I agree, but the big difference with my experience was they blatantly lied about why we needed to go in and have an appointment with them and thus wasted our valuable time and money.0 -
Surely they wanted to see you to have proof that you had a mortgage offer? As they copied the Nationwide AIP, it wasn't really a waste of your time. Seems a weird thing to get wound up about, when you consider the stresses involved in a house purchase - prepare to be even more wound up in the coming weeks/months!0

I agree. It has already happened now. No point getting angry over all this. You still have'nt even gone through the stress of the whole process of obtaining the house. Then never ending, in's and out's of the dreaded DIY store (hence, B&Q, wickes, ....). You get it..... Never ending.
You will be eventually using this website to find discount codes just to decorate the stupid building. Three years down the line you notice that you have to go through the whole process again just to make your house modern. Welcome to the real world.Motto: 'If you don't ask, you don't get!!'
Remember to say thank you to people who help you out!
Also, thank you to people who help me out.0 -
TBH don't expect EA's to look after anyone, but themselves, even large ones like the Halifax. We had quite a problem when we sold our last house through them. They wanted to do the thing that was least trouble to them.
We lost the purchase of a house with another agent because we wouldn't sell ours through them.0 -

Thanks for your comments. I am fully expecting it to be a stressful and difficult time ahead.
I just wanted to gauge if this was the norm with the Halifax and see if other people had similar experiences with them. It would make anyone angry IMO though, making the whole appointment sound like an in depth check on us to find out it was a sales pitch and all they wanted was a copy of our AIP. One of us could have dropped that in first thing in the morning and not had to mess about both attending an appointment halfway through a Saturday afternoon.
All this to me, who has been a customer of theirs for over 20 years. I dont rate them at all and wont be with them in terms of my bank accounts for very much longer. :cool:0 -

I know it's normal. But you have to be always on your guard not to be coerced into buying something you don't want or need, or pay too much for, Lots of sales techniques thse days are deliberately misleading. Thank god for the internet. A savvy puchaser (of anything) can find out what features he/she needs and the ballpark price.
How many buy warrenties with annual or monthly payments and pay more than actually replacing the item if it broke down. Or how about introductory savings rates which turn cr*p after the initial period, and rely on our apathy not to react. All legal I know, but so is the three card trick.
I enter any sales negotiation expecting to be manipulated.
