Can anyone help me with a bagel recipe? We are a big lover of bagels and can go through a packet of 5 in a day!
So to try a be a bit more economical thought I would try making them (have a breadmaker) - any suggestions with regards to recipes would be appreciated.MFW - currently at £23,610 (Aug 2014) MFD 20200 -
I don't use a breadmaker, but Rachel Allen's bagels are fabulous. If you search you will be able to find the video too, it is from the Rachel Allen Bake! series. It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0

Do you mean like bread dough - could I use a packet mix for instance? I always thought bagels were slightly sweet or maybe they have something like caraway in them?Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14

I have only ever made them once (using bread dough) and in the recipe I used they were sweet. The water into which you dipped them had sugar in it.0 -
the water you boil them them in has malt in to make them lovely an shiney and slightly sweet - the best i made were to Peter Reinharts recipe via smittenkitchen.com - the dough is much firmer than an ordinary dough using less water and I use canadian extra strong flour tooPeople seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

If they were sweet, they'd taste awful with smoked salmon and cream cheese, which is the classic combination.0
