In need of help! - Made big, big tax mistakes

As I understand it, the file date and the tax year that you are filing for are 2 different things: if you file online for Tax year 6th April 2008 to 5th April 2009, you have until January 31st 2010 to do it. But no matter whether you file as soon as HMRC are ready, which was a few weeks ago, or wait until the final day, you are still filing for the same tax year. If you are claiming retrospectively, | always thought that you had 6 years from April 5th of the year. Perhaps this is no longer true ..Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

It is 5 years and 9 months from the end of the tax year, so 2003/04 tax year will be time barred 31 January 2010. However I'm pretty sure in the Budget small print the time limit will be reduced to 4 years at some point.0
