Old Bank Statements

I wanted to get a history of all my transaction for my current account. I've only been with the bank since March 2003, so didn't think 3 years of statments would be that hard to get.
But Halifax want to charge me £5 per quarter for my old statements, working out to £60.
Is there anyway I can get them for free? I spoke to them over the phone, could i get an actual print out if i went into my branch?
Any help appreciated.

i believe you can get them under the terms of the data protection act for a max of £10 see

Thank you.....thats the main reason I am trying to get all my statements, so I can get these charges back.
But I couldn't see anything there about getting them all back for £10 under the DPA?Starting Debt (Feb 06)

Ask them for a list of all charges incurred on the account (along with any evidence of manual intervention), rather than for statements. This is covered by the DPA, and also makes it easier to sort out what and when the charges were. Sometimes they will send you statements anyway, but you shouldn't pay more than £10 to get the info you need. There are also good letters in the library secton of https://www.bankactiongroup.com - great site for info on reclaiming charges.Budget: a mathematical confirmation of your suspicions. A.A. I just spoke to Halifax again and asked for a list of all bank charges incurred on the account. He said to me "Oh have you been watching GMTV then?". I asked why he said that and he said "Oh...nothing. Forget I said anything".
Anyway, I found out that i've had 6 lots of charges on my account in the past 3 years and I am going to be resent the original letters to tell me what they were for.
Anyone know what was said on GMTV?Starting Debt (Feb 06)

go to
http://www.bankactiongroup.co.uk/
you then need to register ...which is free
then go to the forums
in the list of forums look for library
there is a wealth of useful letters... the particular one i'm referring to is
data protection act request - letter -list of charges
best of luck0 -
I think there was general blah about people reclaiming bank charges - https://www.bankactiongroup.com was mentioned as well. They must be bracing themselves for an increasing number of DPA requests, and charge claims...Budget: a mathematical confirmation of your suspicions. A.A. Latimer

It was an article to do with the man who took Lloyds TSB to court to get back about £2,500 in bank charges. Lloyds didn't turn up but the court gave permission for bailiffs to be sent to Lloyds to retrieve assets to the value of £2,500. They had Lynn Faulds Wood on the programme who said that any bank charges should be in reasonable proportion to what the charge is for, ie if you go 7p overdrawn you shouldn't be charged £25. The administration charge (ie for sending out a letter) incurred by a bank is apparently about 50p.Steve_82 wrote:I just spoke to Halifax again and asked for a list of all bank charges incurred on the account.
