I have taken the 1st steps...I have cancelled the DD and typed the letter to send tomorrow with a PO for £1.
I feel quite liberated already by just taking these early steps. Its not that I don't want to pay, indeed I have been paying for the last 10 years since I first became ill and it is only the last 3 years that I have had to reduce payments to my creditors and now there are only 3 left to pay.
    Cabot over £5000
    Lloyds over £1000
Tesco £245 (they won't accept a FF of £100, in fact were quite snotty in response)

I am now going to change my bank account as I bank with Lloyds and have done for 34years...I am considering going with Barclays as they offer online banking which is perfect for me as I live in a rural village and cannot leave the house on my own to get into town. Is Barclays a good choice for a basic bank account??

I have dealt with cabot and I found them a nightmare to deal with and they do not freeze the interest they just set it aside. I did full and final with them because I could not take the stress and wanted to stop the interest.

    Good luck

The Coop or Natwest do basic bank accounts with Internet banking!

    all free.

OK..new basic bank account running, with Barclays, just waiting for DD's etc to go over in next 30 days or so..
It took about 1 hour to arrange it all, which was much longer than I expected but was easy enough to do..the site told me to take 2 ID's but I should also have taken my bank statement so that I knew what DD's to arrange and what benefits rates I was receiving, but it was not really a problem.

I have sent the CCA request to Cabot this morning with £1 postal order..hubby is a bit panicky about this.

Next step, ring Nat Debtline etc about DRO

    Will keep you updated:)

    Standard reply from Cabot.

They always claim that they are not required to provide the info, but that claim has been proved wrong time and time again.

Don't believe a word of it.

There are several examples here (and many more elsewhere) where Cabot have been forced to admit that they cannot enforce a debt if they cannot supply a valid agreement.

for info only to other members~
Barclays basic account says that it will be able to change over your DD's to new account but it can' t it has to be done manually.. but it easy to do yourself especially if you have online access to your DD's, I went through them with my personal banker but I could have done it just as easy myself, you will need your DD details, account details(password etc) plus a telephone number for each DD account (sky, bt etc) Sky wanted a Debit card payment as it was 11 days only until payment went out (they need 14 at least) not a problem luckily.

Okay...sent letter requesting CCA to Cabot and rec'd acknowledgement from them on 13 May 2009, this makes 12+2 days today..is this working days only or do I allow extra time for weekends and for Bank Hols?
What is the next step as I have not heard from them yet?
    Thank you
