I bought a computer online yesterday using my Barclaycard. Soon afterwards I had a series of recorded messages over the telephone purporting to come from Barclaycard fraud department and asking me to press 0. It so sounded like a scam. You know the type of thing "You have won a holiday. press 9" and you then get a fortune taken off your phone bill.

Anyhow I called Barclaycard today and the call was genuine. If I hadn't done so then the payment wouldn't have gone through .

I am grateful that Barclaycard was vigilant enough to query this untypical purchase but if I had heard a real voice asking me to call the fraud department then they would have had a more positive response from me.

Anyhow I will soon be the proud owner of a spanking new computer. :j:j

Morning everyone. I am in total shock. I just won on the Mc coys competition! I got the packets in Asda last night (they have multipacks) and today I won, I have no idea what I won as apparently they email you within 10 days to tell you so the suspense is going to kill me. Thanks whoever mentioned it in here, think it was Flick. Thats one crisp packet under lock and key ;)

Horrible grey day. I'll not be around long, just popping in before the mad day starts - swimming lessons for DS etc etc. Hope everyone is lucky

Postman just rang, a goodie bag from Nivea for getting over 2000 points on last years competition, its all good stuff.
Same thing happened with B/card with us last week, then they phoned a week later and said we needed new cards and tried to sell us identity theft cover.

well they've done that with me to my mobile number that I don't give out to anyone (only one person has the number and it's not registered so no mobile company can relate the sim card back to me) and I don't even have a barclaycard!!

Stories like that only make me more suspicious of unexpected calls.

It would have been better if a real person called and asked me to call their fraud department. The number is easy enough to find.

Still nothing is lost but I'm sure there must be a better system than an automated phone call
