How much to expect for a painter?

Hello,

I will be moving soon and will need the living and bedroom painted. Unfortunately I am really not good in painting and would rather get someone in to do it, if it can be done for a rasonable cost.

Any idea how much painters charge these days for such small jobs? The Livingroom is a decent size (about 30sqm) and the bedroom is about 20sqm.

Any recommendations for a painter in the Newry Area would also be welcome.

Regards,
dsab

Depends whether you need undercoat and/or gloss as well as painting. We had some painting done a while back and I think it was maybe about £70 for a reasonably sized sitting room including paint, but this was probably one coat only and the walls were in good shape. But the hall stairs and landing was a good bit dearer because it's pretty high and also because there was a big stain were the roof had leaked. Also if you eg want a light colour over a dark colour it takes a few more applications. Or if they need to fill in holes etc. But in my book well worth it.

Sorry no recommendations though :) our guy doesn't take on any new clients, thus proving that a good painter doesn't need to advertise.

Thanks for all your responses. Good to know a ballpark figure before I get some people around for quotes.

always get at least 3 quotes and work out the average - then barter your way down on the one you would prefer to do the job, with a good reputation for time keeping and cleanliness! Youll more than likely get away with some haggling as everyone needs to get the next client and will be prepared to lose a few quid to secure the deal!

Does any one have any idea how much it is to paint the outside of a house (and also around all the windows - the sills not the pvc windows themselves :o)

We have a two storey which deperately needs done.

    Thanks

Depends on quality - remember price is not everything when it comes to painting and decor - we have used the same painter over last 5yrs - pricing topped at 100 quid day - but last time we used him he was back to 70 quid - not as much work on at the moment - so get a discount.

Just to follow up on this.

In the end I got 3 quotes and I took the cheapest. I paid £250 for Living Room (Walls only), Dining Room (Walls only), Hallway (Walls only) and 2 good sized bedrooms (Walls and Ceilings). The £250 included the paint and he also fixed some other minor things like filling holes and uneven surfaces. Overall it took him 2.5 days.

I am happy with the quality of work and def. very happy with the price.
