New car or newish/newer car, that is the question.

Hello,

Just a bit of advice, please, I know there is possibly no right or wrong answer to this one. We have a W reg Fiat Marea Estate that we are looking to sell in the next couple of months and trade up to a newer (and smaller) car. The original plan was to get about £3000 saved up and then buy a second hand car as cheaply as possible for about £3750 (assuming we'd get the £750 for the Marea). Tonight, down the pub, we started talking about just going mad and getting a new car. Reasons for this: no MOTs, no repair bills if things go wrong, and obviously, nice to have a new car. We would, however, need to go down the finance route. This is something that I promised myself I would never do again (it is very nice not to have any other debt than the mortgage, I must say). We could certainly afford to throw £200.00 or so every month at this, and still not be struggling, but on the other hand it would be nice to be very comfortably off. Anyway, I'd just like some other people's opinions on this one.

Thanks in advance.

Duncan
