I'm really sorry things haven't gone too well in the past for you. I think you're right to consider changing it now - look to the future and the good things that are going to come your way, not the past!

I had the option of joining one of those schemes - I didn't......hence I didn't have the joy of the shares rising and reaping the rewards. So congratulations on making some smart choices and learning that you can pay back the debt, not just go and spend it on wasteful things that you don't want, sounds to me that you've had your light bulb moment already!!!

In a similar scheme, I was "lucky" I was made redundant, I used that money to pay back my debts. My light bulb moment wasn't as drastic as some peoples, but I still think I had it, because I used my redundancy money to good effect, not just spending it on pointless tat and still being in debt.

Happy Birthday hope you have a great day

If you're really determined not to get back into debt again, why not work out how much you were paying each month to service the debts and put that aside in a savings account? Then you've got money to cover those inevitable rainy days that can easily put people back into debt.

    :T Thanks nabowla,

We have already taken that step - the CC payments are now going into savings. We need new guttering for the house and I'm determined to save and pay cash for that - the first time ever that we won't have paid for something like that on a CC - what a lovely thought. :D
