After watching Martin on TV tonight I thought I'd go online and check my credit report with experian. Yeah yeah I know it costs but I wanted to see what they thought my score would be now the CCJ has fell off last month.
Anyway, I find a search on there in January by Vanquis
I have 2 high interest credit cards neither are vanquis and I have NEVER applied for one. More to the point they should never have been allowed to search my file...........
I was the victim of ID fraud by an ex way back when. I found out in 2004 when I found this site due to some of my own debt and checked my credit files.
I have a notice of correction & a password on my credit file with experian. I thought it worked as I once applied for something in store and the shop assistant asked me for the password after being on the phone with them.
I am now mad as hell  I have sent experian an email but cant phone given the hour. I just want to scream at them. I thought my pesonal data was now more secure as I'd been in contact with them throughout 2004 and they were the ones who advised a password. There is no active account for Vanquis so who ever it was, was not succesful in getting a card but I'm still livid that vanquis were given free roaming rights of my file by experian without either party asking for the password.
Any advice? Have they broken the law?
On another note, my OH found it very ammusing that everything Martin said tonight is what I've been preaching to him for the last year, almost word for word. Now he knows why I spend so much time on MSE and live, breath money saving.

Sorry to hear that, when you say you saw martin on tv, what channel was this and what time is it normally on? Never seen it before you see0

Sounds like someone applied for Vanquis in your name, I know with phone companies a credit check is done without permission, This sounds like the case here, Someone may have tried applying for a Vanquis card.0

They cant do a credit check without permission. By applying for credit, be it a phone, mail, in store for a card, loan whatever, you are giving them permission to search your credit file.
I'm wondering who would be applying in my name again! But more so why experian would let them without them haivng to ask me for the password that they advised I put on my credit file? And even if they went to check, found the person who applied didnt have the password then why has it left a mark on my file?
Is the notice of correction and password not a legal right which should stop people being able to apply for and obtain credit in my name? More so stop marks being let on my credit file by such fraudulant applications?0 -
