Previous years bank statements

Hi, I am hoping someone can advise me about gaining access to my old statements. I online bank and have no paper statements due to my love of the environment and therefore do not print them either. My account only gives me access to 12 months. I have messaged my bank and asked how to get hold of the previous years but my questions to you are:
1. Should I expect to be charged for these?
2. How many years can I expect them to still have on record?

Thank you in advance to those who can help!:o Iam hoping that I can reclaim charges to clear the final bit of my overdraft!

The bank will probably charge for copies of statements (possibly £5 per page).

If all you require is a copy of the transaction, not the actual statements them selves (the layout will differ but not the content), then you can make a subject access request (SAR cost - £10).

Have a search on the board, there are a few about and links to others on other boards.

Any other information relating to the account.

I enclose the statutory maximum fee of £10. You have 40 days in which to comply. Furthermore, if I discover that you have levied disproportionate penalties against me, I shall be reclaiming them, and reclaiming the enclosed £10 Data Protection Act subject access request fee.

If there is specific information which you require in order to satisfy yourself as to my identity, please let me know by return. However, please note that the above address is the one which you normally use to communicate my private business to me and which you have found to be acceptable.

    hope that helps

You don't say what bank or type of account you have, but Barclays Platinum account holders can request extra statements for free. Likely the same at other institutions for certain account types.

I've been checking back on my bank statements too.

I've been banking online with Lloyds TSB for a couple of years and like the OP, don't get paper statements. However, I've discovered they've still got my statements right back to 2002 (way before I started internet banking) which has proved very useful.

It's not often I say nice things about my bank.....:rotfl:

Thank you for your replies. It's just i want to look into reclaiming my charges. My bank The Co-Operative say I will be charged £10 per statement for anything older than 12 months! Now, if that is a statement per month thats £120 a year! But my account generates a new statement after so many transactions and as I use my card mostly and not cash this last 12 months is coming up to 50 pages! Either way I think its insane they can charge me this surely?

I got a message back to say that I should be printing them as I go along but I signed up to this particular account because its GREEN!!! Therefore no paper at home or not! Surely it's obvious that it would not be green if you regularly printed the statements?!

Georgeuk and gettingbetter - this SAR - is it for current accounts too? Is it specifically to ask for a list of charges to that particular account? I have a loan (last payment end of May - yippeeee!), cc and current account with same bank - does that letter cover all three or do I need to send 3 letters? Hope you don't mind the questions - all new to me! :)

They must have at least 6 years available for a SAR. If they have more they should send you it all.

On my bank's online banking (HSBC) I can go back 6 years, even though I only banked online for about 4. I'm surprised that they only go back 12 months -pretty poor service I'd say.

I think you need to send 3 letters (and fees unfortunatley)
