Remember Me

Hi, I'm back, the one that hadn't quite got the light bulb moment!
Have ditched Secure Homes and guess what I've ended up owing them £1338 (how the f... did that happen)? Am now paying that at 135 per month for 10 months. Since leaving them gas and elec have gone up, can't switch the elec as there is a debt on the account. Looks like this might be the first month I can't meet the min payments on the cards. O/H wants to take a secured loan out to pay them all off. I am fighting against it. Have been trying to balance transfer some of the cards onto HSBC, they accepted me but are dragging their heels in sorting it out.
Does anyone think I should look at life of balance cards?
Any comment on the secured loan would be a help.

  • Hi Tweeypie,

Do not go for a secured loan at any cost. If you can change your cards to a balance of life and its cheaper yes.

Secured loans no way, its like out of the frying pan into the fire. If you default you could lose your home.

    Be careful out there.

TweeyPie, have you considered contacting one of the debt advice charities such as payplan, consumer credit counselling service or citizen's advice? They might be able to help you manage your debts, negotiate with creditors etc. It doesn't sound as if your position is manageable if you are missing payments etc although if there are areas that you can cut back your spending that might help. If you have not done so before, you could post a statement of affairs which we will be able to advise you on.

Thought I would contact credit counselling. Haven't missed any payments yet. Have posted my statement before, hence the dumping of Secure homes. Still really p...ed that I ended up with a debt with them.

How exactly did you end up owing them? I know these companies are shocking but I'm struggling to understand!! If you intend to do it you really should contact one of the free charities asap, the sooner you do the easier for them to help you.

    Best of luck!

When I cancelled Secure Homes it was towards the end of the month (I had been paying about £1400 per month) they said that monies had been paid from the account like mortgage etc and there was an outstanding debt of £1338. They were paying all my bills except insurances but the cost to me each month was about £160 more than I will be paying for my utilities myself. I have set up a seperate account just for the bills but I don't think we will feel any benefit until we have got our first month on our own (so to speak) under our belt.
