  • wow thanks for all the replies some really interesting recipes that i'm going to give a whirl. i've always wanted to try jerk chicken, rice and peas.

does anyone know if there ia an asian/ chinese supermarket in fife.

i know of a large chinses one in glasgow, put wondered if there were any closer to home.

keep these recipes coming if you have any. i love spicy food but am trying to cut down on cost of having takeways.

I live near one in Edinburgh - although that might be a bit far for you.

I do know that there used to be one in Dundee - although I am not entirely sure where. Perhaps if you were to ask very nicely in your local takeaway they might tell you? ;)

Not quite Indian or Chinese, but I make really nice burgers if I do say so myself. This was discovered by accident.

    1 packet sausage meat
    1/2 small toamtoes, chopped
    1 medium onion chopped
    goats cheese
    small handfull of mushrooms, chopped
    1 egg
    mixed herbs
    salt and pepper

Chuk it all in a bowl and mix. Make into burger shapes - makes 6-8. Fry in a little oil till done.

  • Yes it was me who said about the lemon/orange sauce being made with suash - chicken stockor veggie stock with squash added and thickened with cornflour.

Chardonnay, can't help you with Chinese/Asian grocers in Edinburgh, but there are several in Hilltown, Dundee, if that's not too far away from you.
  • If you like indian food, got a great book i bought a few years ago.
Found it on amazon just £3.99 called 'The curry secret' by Kris Dhillon.
    Hope link works:

They also do a chinese version but didnt find it as authentic, the indian recipes are fantastic though just like your local taj mahal!!!!!
  • Try the ken hom books

They are easy to follow and make great meals - a lot of the other books are to complicated and are not as nice

This is my version of sweet and sour chicken:

Serves 4 (although could stretch to 6)

1lb skinless chicken breasts, chopped into bite sized pieces
    1 onion, diced
some diced peppers (I use some red, yellow and green)
445g tin of pineapple chunks (in own juice)
    1 tbsp cornflour
    2 tbsp tomato sauce
    1 tbsp soy sauce
    1 tbsp white wine vinegar
    135ml water

Stir fry chicken pieces until just cooked through.
Add onion and peppers, stir fry for 2 mins.
Drain pineapple juices into a jug. Toss pineapple chunks into pan, cook for a further 2 mins.
Mix cornflour with pineapple juices. Add tomato sauce, soy sauce, vinegar and water to jug, stir well. Add mixture to pan, bring to the boil, stirring until it thickens.
Simmer for 5 mins and serve with rice or noodles.

Low fat too - about 280 cals per person (excl rice/noodles). Tomato sauce gives it a nice orangey colour - no need for food dyes!
No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.
