Advice please on T J Hughes Silent Night Memory foam mattress deal?

My partner has instrcuted me to find a memory foam matrress!!! Obviously I want to find a good deal and im tempted by the offer on at T J Hughes for their Silent night double at £199. Im just a bit concerned as it states the foam is only 3cm thick???. Is this a good deal or is this mattress quite a low standard please? Any advice on this mattress or other deals would be very much appreciated. Thank you:

No, it's normal. It's a good mattress, as you'd expect from Silentnight. My son has one on his bed at his house, it's really good.

When I got my new bed I never got one, instead I chose a really good mattress topper, a featherbed (down) from QVC. I thought the natural filling would be more hygenic, as with man-made products you can get a bit sweaty in the night, and there's nowhere for the sweat to be absorbed?
    It's worth thinking about.

No it isn't normal at all. 3cm isn't enough to mould to your body. The only reason memory foam is used on mattresses is so that it can mould to your body giving even support, but without causing pressure points. 1" isn't anywhere enough to do this. However you don't want to go too deep either, otherwise you will sink deeper into the memory foam and become too hot. It can also be difficult to change position.

The optimum depth is 2" to 2.5".

As for Silentnight, do a search in the MSE forums for them.

Just to let you know, my mum bought a memory foam matress topper, think from ideal world or qvc. A lot cheaper than the TJ Hughes one. But word of warning, my dad hates it. Finds he gets really sweaty and too warm with it on.
Is a sufferer of SAD, so don't blame me, blame the depressing English weather!!!

One thing to remember with memory foam toppers is that they go on top of the mattresses existing quilting, so there is double the amount of insulation, and much of the heat is trapped.

You didn't mention how deep the topper is, but if it is too deep then it can engulf you and make you too hot.

Most people who have owned a topper, and then change to a mattress with memory foam say that the mattress is far better (especially those that contain springs because the air can flow through them better).

A cheaper option would be a memory foam topper (which TJ Hughes also sell). They are about 2-3" thick, my son is really happy with his.
