Tax

Hi, nil tax code was applied beginning of Feb for my hubby he only returned back to work in Nov last yr due to illness, OR has confirmed in email that they have received £346 tax from IR for tax collected from Nov to March but I think they have mis understood what IR have said because no tax was collected in wages from Feb until Apr surely I need to pay this to OR, what should I do mention even though I have sent several emails asking how much we need to pay received email today advising that tax from IR is from Nov to March so nothing else due sent email back asking them to re-confirm this, or do I stay quite and see what happens, OR says the tax my hubby paid between Nov and March is an overpayment which they are entitled to, so does that mean because they have received this they will not ask us for the rest.

The tax your OH paid in his wages from Nov to Mar will end up with the OR when they claim it from IR - which is what appears to have happened.

The nil tax code applied from Feb - I assume that your OH has received this amount in his wages? Is it more than £50 per month? If so then you need to tell the OR as you should be giving this to them. If its less than £50 of tax per month then your OR won't collect it as its too costly for them, but perhaps its worth contacting them anyway to check (just to cover yourself).

I have advised OR in several emails that my hubby has been on tax code since 05th Feb and that no tax has been deducted in his wages from this date until beginning of April which is approx £400 sent another email tonight asking them to re-confirm that no tax is due from us
