They had one of these - different make in kwiksave the other week - I didn't want it because I have a handheld version (yep I know it doesn't do the weighing!)

Anyway the one in kwiksave was reduced to about a tenner if I remember correct - definately a lot cheaper than this.

It's not gonna be at all accurate for measuring body fat but I'm suppose it's ok if you wanna see how much fat you keep putting on

All it is doing is this simple equation..
    http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dnpa/bmi/calc-bmi.htm

Waste of money I am afraid, and not accurate.

Kelly Holmes, (olympic gold) is classed as obese using that equation.

BMI is a waste of time because it doesn't take muscle into account, which is much heavier than fat. According to the BMI index, every bodybuilder is obese. Utter nonsense.

BMI is not the same as body fat analysis. Based on 3 months of daily readings on my weight watchers scales I'd say the body fat reading is "indicative" but not very acurate. If you plot a rolling 3 day average over a long period though it's quite interesting.

If you want a handheld body fat analyser there is an offer for one on packs of low fat cereal bars (I forget which brand) In Tesco. Two Tokens (packs) and so much postage IIRC, I didn't pay it a lot of attention.

The only proper way to check body fat is via submersion / water displacement. Even electrical impedance is highly flawed.
Unless you have access to a lab with the right equipment, you are wasting your time.

You can look at it as an indicative figure, that changes..
But then, thats just the same as using the normal scales as an indicative figure ;)

Those methods you've mentioned are accurate but can be affected by water levels within the body, and also are expensive. One of the most accurate ways which is used by bodybuilders is calipers. They're very cheap, about a tenner and you take 7 or 9 points on the body and you see how much skin you can pinch. You plug all those into a formula and they give you your body fat %.
