  • I am new to this, but looking at these posts i think i know what the answer will be but here goes...

I have got 6 defaults on my experian report totalling just over 5k for various credit cards etc, these are now all satisfied, and the 6 years (from the default dates not when they where paid) will be up between Sept this year and October next.

I have tried to get a mortgage and despite the fact i have got a 15% deposit and require 2.3 times my salary i have been declined. Am I wasting my time continuing to try to find a lender and should I just wait until the 6 years are up? I am begining to think that this is my only option!

    Hiya

Yes, spot on - just wait til the ones for this year to drop off and then try again next year, if a decline then wait til they all drop off....

    Thats the best advice.... :D

    Hi Flying,

Tbh, I think you're best off leaving it a bit longer to give your defaults time to drop off. Plus you'll give yourself some more time to save up more of a deposit in this falling market. We bought our first house in May 2007 when I had 2 settled defaults totalling about £8k. But our mortgage is with a sub prime lender (SPML) and they were a bit more lax with their lending back then lol. On the plus side, our fixed rate ended a couple of months ago and our apr is currently 2.99% - so sub prime lending isn't always bad!

    hello all

so, i'm now about to enter phase 2 with Abbey, who failed to respond to my SAR within 40 days. I am sending them a follow up letter asking for response within a week (both sent recorded). when they fail to respond to this, which I'm certain they will, I am inclined to start a claim via moneyclaim. I dont think the ICO have enough power to support me fully...any thoughts on this welcome.
I want to open a court claim because this is the fastest way to get a response, and this has been ongoing for more than 3 years in total.
Anyway, I will keep you posted folks

Blimey, thats a bit of a saga. Good luck with Abbey. Fwiw, I'd be tempted to go the ICO route first before court.

    Keep us updated :)
