What's your story? Is your credit file any better than mine? What defaults do you have and what are you doing to rebuild your credit?
I have 2 defaults from 5 years ago which I am just waiting to drop off my credit file. One comes off in Feb and the other comes off in Feb.
I also have a note saying that I am on a DMP which is what I am trying to get removed.
Other than that my credit report is fine. To rebuild my credit I have a Vaanquis Card and a capital one card. I also have a mobile phone contract with three and an RBS current account.
How about you?0 -
Well I have 2 defaults - both from Egg. One is due to drop off in Dec 2010 and the other Feb 2013  I have paid them both off but they're just hanging round my neck now.
I didn't really bother with any CCs since (apart from a Halifax CC I've had for years) until I found this board last year. I am now the proud owner of the following:
Halifax CC - Limit £1900
Vanquis CC - Limit £1250
Cap 1 CC - Limit £1600
MBNA CC - Limit £3100
Amex Plat CC - Limit £3100
Flybe CC - £1000
Barclays Current Account - £150 O/D Limit
Alliance & Leicester Current Account - £1550 O/D Limit
SPML/Capstone Mortgage - 2.99% APR
Next Catalogue - £900 limit
Littlewoods Catalogue - £800 limit
3 Mobile BB Contract
O2 phone Contract
Crikey, now I've written it all down thats quite a lot lol.
I'm deciding what to do about the CCs as the only cards that I carry a balance on are Halifax and MBNA. I keep thinking that I should close some of them down - I was going to close Vanquis this month after 12 months but they've just upped my limit. I think I like Cap 1 cos of the free credit reports and alerts. I think I will prob close Halifax as they haven't increased my limit for about 5 years lol. I am def going to close my Barclays account as I don't use it.
So all in all, not too bad. It's just a waiting game really - just making sure that I keep all of the above in order so that I don't go over limit or any late payment markers. My goal is to get a mainstream mortgage. One can only dream lol0 -

Did you get those cards before your defaults? I have an egg default also but it drops of in Feb so just gonna leave it be.
Well im sure you can get a mainstream mortgage easily with all that when the defaults drop off or you have them removed. Good luck with that0 -

Wow really? I was under the impression it was not worth applying for mainstream cards with defaults. Did you just apply and get them or did you appeal? All my defaults have been paid off fully too.0 -

I applied and got them - haven't had to appeal. Mind you, MBNA and Amex both only searched my Experian file which is my "good" file as Egg didn't report the defaults to them, so there was no negative data. They have now reported to them tho - the crafty beggars.
I think it also helped that I'm a homeowner (with mortgage) and that I earn a half decent salary. Well I did until they just gave me a 50% pay cut
What are your searches like? If you don't have many it might be worth giving MBNA or Flybe a shot? I got both of those via the Sub-Prime thread.0 -
Well I am still seeing about MBNA as I had an account with and I paid it off but it never went into default. They are considering what to do with me, whether to give me my account back or not.
I have 3 searches in last 3 months for the cards I now have.
Egg put defaults on my experian report so I am not as lucky as you it seems. Least its not long to go0 -

Why don't you try Flybe? Quite a few people were successfull with that one. Its a mastercard, not bad APR and not bad limits. Plus use it once and you get a free European flight0 -

I might give that a go when its been 3 months since my other searches. See if I can get lucky and I do love my european breaks
You going anywhere nice this year?0 -

Yes, I can't wait for my hols! Going to Florida - honeymoon actually
I'm so stressed at work I could do with the break lol
Good luck with the Flybe, I miss the thrill of applying and being accepted. How sad am I lol. I just want to try and keep as clean a record as possible so that I can get a mainstream mortgage.
Are you watching Big Brother? The usual wannabees lol0
