Fix My Street - Report A Problem.

How to report a problem

  1. Enter a nearby GB postcode, or street name and area
  2. Locate the problem on a map of the area
  3. Enter details of the problem
  4. We send it to the council on your behalf

    We get these at work all the time and to be honest people would be better of going to your local council's website and reporting it that way as all they do is send an e-mail to the main council contact e-mail address anyway. The only good thing about the website is that it shows progress to everyone else on what is happening.

    Thanks, just reported my road as it is full of potholes which they keep coming to fill but it doesn't last long before the holes are back again. Don't know why they don't re-pave it properly, heck the road is less than 1 tenth of a mile. They have paved the roads on both ends of my road which are a lot longer but left my road full of holes!!!:mad:

    I used this last year and it was of no help whatsoever.

    As mrcol said I would go direct to your council.

    fixmystreet is easy to use, much easier than being passed around different extensions and departments. The site swiftly sends notification of a problem to the relevant authority. The site works every time, its the relevant authority that does not carry out the work or sort the problem. I have used it to notify of various problems, I am on the border of 2 different District Councils and one clearly takes action and the other...
    The good thing about the website is that it shows lack of progress to everyone else, on what NOT is happening. And it does get things done.

  • If all it's doing is posting an email to your Council's email address it's probably going to be less effective than using the direct routes.

    A lot of Councils nowadays have a call centre. Jobs will be entered directly into their CRM system either directly via a web form or by call centre operator.

    If you pop an email to a different address, it'll just get forwarded and wait for someone to copy & paste or retype details into the CRM. Things need to go in the correct field too. Most CRMs will validate the address against a local property gazeteer, so that any work is done against the correct property and any notices issued against the correct people.

    If nothing is happening, it might be because it hasn't made it into the CRM so the operational staff haven't got a job to pick up.

    Just report a problem and my local council has already e-mail to acknowlege; so now wait and see. Thanks for other way to contact local council.

    This is exactly what fixmystreet does. It just automatically forwards your e-mail to the generic e-mail address they have on file for the area which the problem is. So you may as well just e-mail the council direct because sometimes your find that there are different e-mail addresses for different departments. Also if you e-mail direct it will be taken more seriously by certain councils than if you go through fixmystreet.
    Also just a hint. Your find that the people that answer e-mails are usually on a higher pay grade than the ones answering the phones. It is usually the more senior contact centre staff who deal with written and electronic communications.

    No Maximus, I've used it and it does prompt the council. Sorry about this being a "first post" I came across this thread just browsing and wanted to back up Matt's recommendation. I thought this was the idea?
