Hi, being really sad and planning already for xmas  does any one have a recipe for homemade beef suet? I live in Germany and want to make my own mincemeat for pies at xmas, unfortunately the Germans don't seem to do suet or mince pies all the recipes I have found on the 'net seem to be for birds, would it be all right to use that?0

Hi, suet isn't something you can make. It is a naturally occuring substance. It is the fat from inside an animal -usually the fat encasing the kidneys. Ask a butcher to save some for you and grate it. I can buy it from my butcher here ready grated, but in the old days you would get it in a piece and grate it yourself -a bit of a job I believe.
HTH:)
Or maybe you could get some Atora suet by mail order.0 -
Hi there
I have just sent you a PM as i am moving to germany in 3 weeks....but have just remembered that you can use grated butter instead of suet..and i always use grated butter in xmas puddings too as it makes them much lighter...-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50
