Tax Refunds websites

I need to know who to go with to get back a tax refund I know is due to me for 08/09, I also think I have been paying too much tax for many years. Which website is best as there seems to be so many with no win no fee clauses. I have contacted tax office so many times and they tell me they are only working on February for my area at present. I am unemployed and need to access this money asap. I also was on a emergency tax code for 6 months is that normal I think not? Any advice anyone can give out there who may have been in the same situation would be gratefully received. I am keen to get another party involved as due to the research I have done they get a quicker result and that is what I need right now. Thanks :o

    Hi

Id recommend that you dont use these websites.. they are a rip off.

Normally when I need a tax rebate, I call the tax office that named on my payslip (might not be your local one). You can get the number from HMRC website (sorry not allowed to post link - just google HMRC) by clicking on the 'contact us' tab. Ask them how I should go about seeking a refund of tax. They have always asked me to send a letter with my P45/P60s for the relevant years.

If you send these to HMRC they should respond to you within a few weeks. If they delay in responding, chase them up regularly. Its worth checking the tax rebate you are due also - I think there is a calculator on this site that can help you.

You would have been on a BR tax code because your employer did not have evidence of a tax code or because you had a second job.. if you did not have a second income source, its likely you are due a rebate.

A company that offers a tax back service wont be able to get it back any quicker in my opinion. Just do what you ahve done and send a P60 off with a leter requesting overpaid tax back and see what happens.

Lyndsay he said he was on emergency tax not basic rate. Emergency tax occurs when you have been employed previously in the year and the new employer doesnt have a copy of your P45.

If your tax office has arrears of post on hand (and most do), no online, or even offline agent is going to get your refund quicker. Any promises of quick results are rubbish.

As Lyndsay says, these sites are a rip off and only do what you can do yourself (maybe with support from a friend or this board).

Have you actually made your claim? If not, we need to know whether you are claiming JSA, whether you have yur P45 from your last job and whether you have your P60's from previous years.

code 630L is not an emergency code.

It is a cummulative code and is meant to ensure that the tax is paid correctly.

(also I think you have mistyped it as most people last year had a personal allowance of 6035 give a code of 603L)

As tigtag02 says, post your earnings / tax paid / tax code for the last financial year and I'm sure people will work out how much you should have paid and is a refund is due.

But avoid the websites, they can't hurry up the process and you will be wasting money. HMRC are honest and if you ask them to check your tax records for the last 6 years they will do so honestly and send a refund if appropriate. But they aren't the fastest moving people in the world.

stay away from the tax rebate sites, my hubby did this and the tax rebate company took 40% of his refund in fees. All you need to do is gather up your paperwork for the past 6 tax years and HMRC will do it all for you free of charge
