The csa sent a letter to an address last week that I haven't lived at for well over 2 years asking for my details, they are now claiming that the sent the letter 2 weeks previously and because i have ignored it they're now going to contact my employer. I have been paying money to my ex for several years now, does this not count?? she claims that she cant call them off even though there is something on their website saying that it can be sorted out between the 2 parties without the csa having to be involved.
any ideas???

There are several years of bank statements that will back up payments going to her. I had presumed she's been lying to me

Do the statements state child support?

Okay don't panic just yet...i hope others are able to help you out here. Your not alone on this one, let others give you advice also a few names that spring to mind Mr Greens, markston and pd001

After reading some threads here similiar to your story the CSA along with your ex could say that the money was gifts/debts etc. I don't know if i'm honest how this may pan out .

If you give your ex anymore money get a receipt stating "child support for xxxx(child's name)"

    Thanks for the advice.
I have just spoken to a solicitor who said that I should contact the csa myself and do everything through them and under no circumstances ignore them even though I am currently paying money to my ex. Not sure how comfortable I am speaking to them after reading some of the horror stories on here!

First of all, the CSA are already involved so you'll have to communicate with them eventually & usually, earlier is better than later.

Secondly, you should communicate with them in writing only & keep copies of every scrap of information that you send & receive. Personally, I would send emails to back up my letters & keep copies of those as well. Give them no opportunity to deny having received anything from you.

If you do phone them, try & get the person's name that you speak to & make a written note of everything that is said & ask them to back this up in writing.

Next, immediately change your maintenance payments to the PWC to bank standing order stating "Child maintenance paid to xxxxx (PWC'S name) for xxxxx (Child's name). At least this will stop any further arrears building up.

You will have a battle on your hands to get these arrears removed from your account as there is no written evidence of maintenance being paid to the Mother for the child. Yes, it may seem obvious to most people, but the CSA will try & class these previous payments as gifts & will expect you to pay up the arrears. You may end up paying loads of money to lawyers & still have to pay the arrears.

Is it right that she could call the csa and state that we have a private arrangement and they no longer need to be involved??

Do you have proof that you have lived at a different address ? i.e rental agreement etc..

You need to phone them and tell them you live elsewhere. Your ex ( by the sounds of it ) is lying to you. No one not even those on benefits are now obliged to use the CSA. If i were you i would stop all payments directly to her straight away, if you don't chances are you will end up paying it twice.
