Couple of ways to get a good deal:

    i) get recommended by a friend who already has Sky. This will allow both you and your friend to take advantage of any introduction and referral benefits. Normally these are £50 of Marks and Spencer vouchers (each) or a free upgrade to Sky+ rather than just the basic the Sky. If you need a referrer - let me know! Heheh!

ii) if you are buying a new TV at the same time, some retailers will offer you good deals with Sky. For example, at time of writing, Tesco are offering free upgrades to Sky HD when any TV is bought with them.

Another option, if you do not want to have any subscription cost, is to choose the 'Free to Air' or 'FreeSat' option. This means you can get all the basic channels - BBC (including all the extras such as CBeebies, News24 etc), all the ITVs, Channel 4, 5 as well as about 200 other English speaking channels.

You can get the above through Sky (Tescos, again, sell a package that will get this for you) or you can let your subscription with Sky lapse after the first year and your equipment effectively reverts down to a FreeSat system.

You can also get FreeSat by purchasing one of the cheapy deals that come up from Aldi or Lidl from time to time. I got one for 40 quid the lot a couple of years back - but it means you do have to install it yourself and you don't get the extra features like an EPG (7 days or more of TV listings) or the 'Red Button'.

    Have fun!

I have been told that the best time to haggle is the last Thursday evening of the month. Their sales figures are finalised the next day so that last push can make them offer you some good stuff.

I got free installation and Sky+ box because I was being referred by a friend (who never got their M&S vouchers - bad Sky).

You can absolutely have it without broadband or phone - I do and it costs about £21 pcm for all packages except movies and sports.

When I bought Sky I found that the best deal was not online or over the phone, but was by haggling with the person selling Sky packages via a stand at Bluewater Shopping Centre...

I believe that if you are referred by someone, then the installation should be free.

I recently referred a couple of friends locally - and they both got free installation.
