Was thinking about some charity shop work to get some retail experience, Can anyone reccomend this? And does it affect JSA?

The Job Centre is introducing new initiatives to help people who have been unemployed 6 months or more into employment, and one route is through voluntary work.
Might be worth having a chat with a Job Centre adviser as there may be incentives for you and/or a charity shop etc.0 -
Thanks, Not been on JSA that long, But I'll give it a go0

Hi there, im currently receiving benefits and am doing various volunteer work to gain experience. It doesnt affect benefits but you have to advise the job centre what you are doing. Here is a link which tells you all about it http://www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk/jcp/stellent/groups/jcp/documents/websitecontent/dev_015837.pdf.

There is one scenario where it might affect your money. If you do voluntary work for an 'ordinary' company, not a registered charity, the DSS may have to take 'notional earnings' into account (ie, what someone would get paid for doing the work).
Just make sure that doesn't apply to you.Fokking Fokk!0 -
Thanks
Ill give it a bash

There was someone posting here who did volunteer work in a charity shop, then was considered for a position of (paid) assistant manager! Volunteering is a very good way to get experience and a start in the not for profit world.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?
