Hiya, I'd be grateful for some advise on what happens regarding the case with e for child maintenance.

I contacted the csa a few years ago regarding maintenance for my son, as his dad stopped paying it.

He ignored all letters from them, and so only received the £5 per week, when he signed on, which was 2 years ago. At all other times they said he didn't know where he worked.

Finally after phoning csa continually, they finally put in a request to the inland revenue for his employment detail.

I phoned up today and they said that they have received his employment details, and they will contact his employer for his wage details, and payments will be taken directly from his wages.

How long does this usually take?

Do they start the claim from when the first payment is to be made or do they backdate it to the time he started at that job?

And now they have this inform

I think you will find that it is from day one when they contacted him, but it should also be from the date that he started his new job.

It can only be from the date that they contact his employers as they can't do an assessment until they have his wage details.

It is done from the date that they first send him the letter as they will ask him to provide details of his earnings first. If he doesn't give them then they will go to his employer and yes it will be backdated to that initial date.

He's never replied to any letters from them, that why they've went to inland revenue to trace his employer.

So once they've done an assessment, they'll backdated it to the time they initially contacted him, even though he's never replied?

How much do you estimate his arrears to be?

I've not had any payments since two and a half years ago.

It was £5 per week as he was signing on, but once he signed off it went to a nil assessment, as he didn't reply to any letters.

It's took me this long for them to eventually contact the inland revenue to get employer details.
