You've admitted you decided to ignore the fact that they weren't taking money - why didn't you chase that up?

Yes I did, they were taking 40% of my wages and I couldn't afford to live on what was left and was getting further and further into debt, I was glad of the break, once they started again I had to declare myself homeless, but I knew the arrears weren't increasing during this time as I was still paying my ex the regular amount.

You've faffed about for years and now you have decided to pay then it's too late to start asking them to play by your rules and backdate assessments. You had a child and you were working. Whether you were a temp or whatever you would have known that CS would be due for your daughter.

Btw I don't understand that you didn't pay when you didn't see your daughter - is she a pay-per-view commodity that you have?
Well I assume you haven't had your children kept away from you or maybe you would understand, I was desperate to see my daughter and tried everything. I told my ex I would pay again when she let me see my daughter out of desperation, when she didn't, every spare penny went into the thousands I spent on legal fees.

At the end of the day, I made a mistake and tried to face up to it and I've gotten stung for it. I spent nearly £3000 on legal fees to get access, most of which had to go on credit cards that I am still paying off, then another nearly £6k to the CSA, some got taken off because of what I had been paying direct but it's still a lot of debt for someone in their mid-twenties. The whole system is weighted in favour of mothers, and it sucks. Everyone treats you as if you are scum, which may be true in a lot of cases but far from it in this one. I expected some friendly advice on here, not to be treated in the same way.

Thanks for the people that did help, I won't be posting again though.

You don't seem to understand where I'm coming from at all. Why are the rules like that? Because Parliament decided to make it that way. Why can't they retrospectively change the arrears IF you can prove they are incorrect? Because YOU have to notify them of any changes AT THE TIME THEY HAPPEN - that is what the rules say, that is what has to happen. Simple. No-one at the CSA ever gave me an answer to that except for "because those are the rules". You repeatedly telling me the same thing isn't much use to me, thanks for your input anyway. I wasn't an MP as weren't any CSA staff, so if you want to know the reasoning behind the legislators' decisions, you need to ask them, not the CSA staff who can only implement what the rules are, they don't analyse them. Policy makers do that and no, they aren't CSA staff either. CSA staff do what policy makers tell them is correct - policy makers interpret the law and make the policies.

FWIW I have had to grudgingly accept that for now I am paying £3000+ arrears that I never should have owed. I wonder if you would just say "oh they're the rules, I better pay it" if you were in that situation.

I would have no choice - you may question but in some instances you have to accept that they are the rules and abide by them I'm afraid.

I don't know what you expect? The answer isn't what you want to hear but it is the truth.
