I got my new Ikea Kitchen fitted around 6 months ago and this might sound daft but my worktops now look completley dull and always look streaky.
Can anyone give me a good tip on the best way to clean them.
Also my stainless steel hob is the same??

Hi masonsmum,
I just use hot soapy water to wipe down the worktops each time I use the kitchen and it keeps them clean and streak free. If I'm putting raw food directly onto them I use an antibacterial cleaner before and afterwards. What are you using at the moment? What are the worktops made from?
To keep stainless steel streak free baby oil works well. This thread may help:
Cleaning Stainless Steel????

Thanks - I would have never thought of using baby oil on my SS products but will def give that a go.0

Hot soapy water as Pink suggests and then wipe down with hot water. It might take a few goes to get rid or your streaks.
Baby oil works wonders on SS, especailly if you have a SS hood.0 -
What are your worktops made from? If they are wood then you maybe need to sand down and re-treat.

I always clean mine with hot soapy water then when they are clean I give them a polish with a dry microfibre cloth , they sparkle..#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Nice wash with stardrops (diluted stuff or the spray) does wonders for worktops and sinks and taps and the like.
Never tried baby oil on the stainless steel....must try that.

Baby oil? Surely that will be, well, oily? Shiny maybe, but sorry, yuk.
I get mine from the supermarket, it's called Shiny sinks (if memory serves). it's a white chalky liquid, you only need a tiny bit, rub it on damp sink/hob with cloth, then rinse and dry with paper towel, put your sunglasses on first, lol. Even if you thought your sink was clean, you'll be amazed. It clears watermarks, minor scratches, limescale stains, you name it. Pricey to start with, but lasts a long time.
Worktops, it depends. If they're white and the streaks are from things like tea etc... then Flash Bleach spray for a few mns does wonder (NEVER use bleach product on white goods though, it will turn them yellow with age). If you're talking of fibreboard which has lost its lustre, then warm water, white vinegar, maybe a bit of salt (make sure it is properly dissolved) rinse well, polish dry with paper towel.

Weak soloution of stardrops in a spray bottle , spray a fine mist onto the worktops so they are barely damp and wipe with a microfibre cloth. This works on stainless steel too.Baby Ice arrived 17th April 2011. Tired.com! :j0
