You are only interested in how to cover your own back and get away with it. And to cap it all, we "idiots" are paying you in benefits and housing.
We don't really know that, do we, fp?
If that is, indeed, the intention of the OP, then I would have no sympathy for him/her, but until we know otherwise:

If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

I thought these forums were for people in genuine need of advice not for people just dodging their responsibilities and ultimately leaving it up to Joe Public to pay extra to accommodate the Bad Debt elements of a company. You used the money, pay it back and don't whine that they might actually catch up with you. You think you'll be ok in NZ - ? well think again, there are reciprocal agreement for data with most countries. I worked on the IT systems side of a financial services company for nearly 20 years and know how the systems work. If you actually worked as hard on sorting your problems out as you have done avoiding them then you'd probably be free and clear by now. I hope you don't get away with it. Lots of us were students, lots of us have had money problems but pull your finger out and sort yourself out like an adult.0

Well they admit to deliberatly avoiding paying back what he/she owes, states that they are on benefit and if they are unemployed must therefore be getting housing benefit, otherwise how could they,in their own words, keep moving? No landlord would touch them. I used to work with someone who earned £35K, had a council flat and kept his name off the electoral register in order to avoid paying council tax, and was really quite proud of this.0 -

And you may well be correct in your initial appraisal of the OP, fp - I don't know.
I am not advocating debt avoidance - I just tried to answer a question.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.

Rog2. Of course, these boards are just for that purpose and are invaluable. But don't waste your time and kindness on this leech. Save it for someone genuine like yourself.0

Im not sure,
To be honest with you, i think the last time i made contact with anyone connected to my debt was in 2003.
I remember ages ago being told by uni (not recommended) that after X years, the debt becomes invalid but the legalities escape me in the real world.
The debt was accrued in England and i now live in Scotland.
The funny thing is though, data protection. Its a complete nightmare to remember passwords etc for telephone banking etc to access my own account yet they can turn around and provide info to others...
What a joke. The good news is that in 6 months time im going to be lookin for a role in NZ. This country is for mugs if you ask me.
Is there not a reciprocal agreement on debt with NZ & the UK, just like there is with Aus & the UK?
Know someone who was tracked down in Aus for a utility bill they'd forgotten.0 -
The DWP and the bank most likely. If you have debt from 2002 surely that is statute barred?
