Restringing an acoustic guitar

Hello all,

I've been very lucky to have been given a Takamine acoustic guitar, but the strings are rusty and some have snapped or are about to, so I need to get it restrung. How much can I expect to pay to get this done, and if I get it done at a music shop, is it a fair thing to ask to watch it being done so I know how to do it myself next time?

learn to do this yourself. it is not difficult.
i would imagine you could pay someone in a music shop but i think it is a basic skill and can be done from instructions on the web or in a book. or maybe you can sweet talk a shop owner.

new nylon strings stretch a bit and need more frequent tuning at first although metal strings not so much. so you will be a dab hand at tuning in no time too.

It's just a matter of unwinding the existing strings, then feeding the new ones in the same holes, then the hard bit, tuning - a cheap electronic tuner helps.
