Hi All,
Has anyone got any good recommendations for a cake shop that does really nice birthday cakes. I guess something simple like a jam/cream madeia cake iced, or something similar. Not fruit cake. And with a happy birthday message iced on it? It doesn't have to be huge. Only about 10 of us.
Ideally we'd need it for Sunday next week, so I guess a Saturday pick up.
Area - Downpatrick/Comber/Belfast or thereabouts.
Many thanks.

To be honest, for convenience and quality it's hard to beat the M&S birthday cakes, but a good home bakery should do something decent. Ronnie's at the bottom of Holywood Road do them, they'll also print on a photograph which is a nice touch on top of a cake. Ashers do nice cakes, but I'm not sure where your nearest one would be.Norn Iron Club Member No. 252 :beer:0

I would second M&S - their cakes are pretty good and I think you can buy plain ones and could probably decorate them yourself.0

Ta for the replies.
I guess I need to find a good home bakery. Any suggestions?
M&S is good. But they'd know it was M&S and not something different/special. Its for my Dad's 80th Birthday so a 'home bakery cake' will look more individual than mass-produced...if that makes sense.
We're also sort of perfectionists so need someone to make a good job of decorating/writing on it! I'm trying to get hold of a sugarcraft book but I'm a complete beginner so a bit early for me to be attempting to ice and decorate an important cake! (sugarcraft being something I''d like to do and hasn't been prompted by this occasion)
I'll pop into M&S and have a look though.#96 of the Norn Iron Club

My family always order cakes from The French Village Bakery in East Belfast (9029 7999). The cakes are gorgeous - light sponge with fresh cream and jam....no matter how big a cake I order, there never seems to be any left!! :-( I would definitely recommend them."I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they're right, you believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together." My family always use jeffers bakery in Lisburn for everyones birthday cake - one year I had a photo of me on it - the other year my sister had a 3d castle cake - theyre very good, taste good and look good! Although youd need to be quick at placing an order!Life is what you make it.0

Anyone recommend a cake maker in the Belfast / East Co Antrim area? I was hoping to get a football themed cake made for a special birthday but in the shape of the clubs badge. Only ones near me is Ashers and would rather use an independant baker if possible.
Anyone remember the lovely cake shop that there used to be in Ross's court before it was knocked down? many years ago? they made the most gorgeous cakes ever for a fiver!

I got a birthday cake from The Old Oven Door on the Antrim Road last week. Absolutely lovely. It was an iced sponge cake with cream.
We would normally use Asher's on the Shore Road which is also very good but I think The Old Oven Door was slightly better.0 -
ASDA do great cakes with a computer generated image put onto the icing.0
