Smear

BG please do not move. I did add this to a current discussion and no one responded - thanks

I have had treatment for CIN1 and 3 when I was 19 and 23. I have had a few abnormals which have got better nothing for 2 years - am on annual recall at the mo but am going to Spain on 11th May and hoped to get results before (had smear week ago last Thurs). However, they will take 3 to 6 weeks. I am worried because if it is serious and I am abroad how will I know will two weeks delay matter? How long have you lot had to wait for an appointment for a colposcopy? I know I am panicking and considered waiting until after my holiday but my smear is due early May and had a time getting an appointment.

Its a bit annoying as they want more women to have a smear but they dont have the capacity?

When I had my last smear, a couple of months ago (right in the middle of the jade goody thing so no doubt a busy time) it took 2 weeks for the results, however I'm sure it depends on where you are in the country this was East Yorkshire.

Mine was normal so I can't comment on the waiting times for further treatment. I understand that you have had problems in the past but if I understand correctly you have also had a few normal smears, so I would try not to worry (easier said than done I know!)

  • normally take about 6 weeks no point in worrying though as if you do need treatment or colp you cant have this for six months from your smear so dont worry x

    Hiya,
I had a recall to the hospital and treatment as well. I think the waiting time for that was like 5 weeks. The date they've given me though was a week before my wedding and so I had to ring them and rearrange it. They said it would be O.K. to have it done after I return from my honeymoon, but if I want it done immediately they will rearrange with some other patient and that is what we did. They recommend 3 weeks without sex, so that is why they wanted me to have it done either immediately or on my return so I am O.K. for my wedding night:-)
I think you are panicking, you need to calm down.
If they think the smear is abnormal, then they send you to hospital for close up with some colouring and then they take another sample. Then they might call you back for treatment. But the chances are you are fine. even the people who have a treatment are usually fine - they don't know at that point whether the cells are bad, they are just doing it "just in case".
You are only going for smear at this point. Enjoy your holiday and don't think about it until you get the letter.
I don't understand why do you think your results are going to be serious? Did I miss something?

that's a bit unfair when the labs have been inundated with women going for smears when they weren't even due. I had my 3 yearly check done in April and was told results are taking up to 6 weeks at the moment - mine came back in just under 4 weeks.
